Located on the main campus of the Universidad Complutense. Many course options available including the Sciences and Math at the university. IES staff help arrange internships, field trips, and other activities. Home stay or dorm with Spanish students required to promote cultural engagement. Larger program in large, vibrant capital city. Students with varying motivations and language skills. Students are encouraged to apply for IES scholarships.

Mostly program courses, language pledge, quality program with good peer group; excursions to different regions of Spain. Well-run program with excellent director and faculty. Hamilton encourages one course at Universidad Nebrija. Located in the university district.

Central and East European and Jewish studies at Jagiellonian University. Opportunity for a non-credit internship at the Galician Jewish Museum. Small, historic city; close to outdoor activities. Excursions to Auschwitz and to Budapest or Prague. Polish language course required. Lower cost. Students are encouraged to apply for API scholarships.

The world’s northernmost institution of higher education. Arctic geology, geophysics and biology at 78 degrees north; remote, cold, Arctic island. Total enrollment: 150; number of Americans: 2

International perspectives on sexuality and gender; 2 week academic excursion to Morocco. Dutch language; prior coursework in sexuality/gender studies required. Independent Study project may include a field work practicum. Advanced theory course open to qualified students. Students are encouraged to apply for SIT scholarships.

Core course in Italian cultural history with academic excursion to Sicily; strong art history courses; language partners with Italian students. Smaller program; Fewer tourists, historic town close to Florence, yet removed from its 4,000 American study abroad students per semester. CET scholarships are available.

Excellent program in very central location, good variety of courses with own faculty and visiting professors from Trinity. Expensive program, even with discount for Bates students. Bates financial aid will cover up to the cost of a Bates semester, a higher than Bates cost is not covered.
